I'm looking for a good trail-running pack for longish runs in the Adirondack wilds. I am looking at the Gregory Reactor and the Osprey Talon 11. If you have experience with either, I'd like to get your feedback. Thanks.

I've used the Gregory Reactor on a number of backcountry runs. It rides very well for me, although I took a little time to get used to the waist belt, which works great for dampening any bounce. I usually can just barely reach around to the side pouch to remove a bottle while running, which I use for a concentrated energy mix. For me personally I've been pleased using an MSR Dromedary bag with hose for straight water which fits snugly in the hydration sleeve still allowing ample room for whatever else. Solid foods such as energy bars and electrolyte supplements, sunscreen, small camera, and other sundries like Mosquito repellant easily fit in the waist belt pockets. I like to keep a map in the taller back pocket so that I don't have to fold it so much. The back mesh pocket is great for a rain anorak and even some extra insulation. Now that I think about it... I really like this pack, and feel that it has been the key enabler on quite a few successful backcountry running adventures.

MP, thanks for the feedback. Just to clarify, in the last part of the post, are you describing the Reactor or the Dromedary?

I'm describing the Reactor. The Dromedary is just a water bag/ reservoir like a camel back bag or platypus. I've just found that the size of the 2 liter dromedary bag works well with the Reactor pack. Basically I use two separate water systems. A bottle with a super concentrated mix, so it's more like a paste, and then a reservoir or bag for holding straight water. I usually hit the paste mix every 20 minutes, and then take a couple gulps of water. But every ten minutes I have just water. Hope that makes sense of it.
