Hey fellow trail runners! I'm searching for new shoes to tackle the rocky, root-covered trails I frequent each week. With my current pair wearing out after hundreds of miles, I need something that can stand up to 50K weeks of mixed terrain - from slick mud to loose gravel and steep climbs.
The perfect pair would give me confident traction on wet rocks, enough cushioning to protect my feet during long outings, and durability to last beyond 300 miles. I'm hoping to stay under $100 if possible.
Have you discovered any underrated or budget-friendly brands that delivered unexpected performance? I'm particularly interested in options that might offer wider sizes. Would love to hear about your experiences with lesser-known models that surprised you in tough conditions! |

For tough, technical terrain, the Altra Lone Peak series is worth considering, although they might exceed $100 depending on sales. If you're aiming to stay within budget, the Saucony Peregrine line is a solid choice, offering a good mix of traction, cushioning, and durability for mixed conditions like slick mud and rocky climbs. New Balance’s Fresh Foam Hierro is also a reliable option, providing cushioning and grip at a decent price. All of these brands typically offer wider sizes, so you should find a comfortable fit. Let me know what you end up going with, always keen to hear about shoes that hold up on rugged trails. |
